This also works with externally powered drive boxes, which look better if you want a tidy and portable final product, but will require a little more assembly to the tune of a few screws. Plug the SATA data and power connectors of your adapter into the back of your DVD-ROM drive, plug the adapter’s USB connector into Raspberry Pi, and its mains adapter into a plug socket or power strip.
